Dr Paolo Canova, MD obtained his medical degree with full honours at Milan-Bicocca University in 2008. During his studies he won a scholarship for a cooperation and development project at “St. Mary’ s Lacor Hospital” (Uganda) and completed a clinical fellowship in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the “Hospital Universitario Marques de Valdecilla” in Santander (Spain).
Between 2009 and 2014 he was a fellow at the Cardiovascular Department of “Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital” in Bergamo (Italy) and “Niguarda Hospital” in Milan (Italy). In 2014 he completed his training in cardiology and cardiovascular diseases qualifying with full honours at 'Milan-Bicocca University' (Italy). During these years he mainly dealt with Intensive Cardiological Care and Interventional Cardiology.
His research has been in the field of acute myocardial infarction and acute heart failure, with particular interest in complex PCI and high resolution intravascular imaging, trained by Dr. Giulio Guagliumi.
Dr Canova has also been involved in several drug eluting stent and devices trials and is Principal Investigator of 2 trials focusing on imaging guided PCI.

Dr Joost Daemen

Dr Joost Daemen obtained his medical degree at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Between 2005 and 2008, he completed a PhD project entitled “The caveats of drug-eluting stents – a critical appraisal of the safety concerns”. After obtaining his PhD Cum Laude, he commenced his clinical training and interventional cardiology training at the Thorax Center in Rotterdam and at the Insel Spital in Bern, Switzerland.
At present, Dr Daemen is participating in cathlab related activities including complex PCI including the use of left ventricular assist devices, intracoronary imaging, and structural heart interventions. Next to his clinical activities Dr. Daemen is highly active in cardiovascular research with a specific focus on intracoronary imaging and physiology and renal sympathetic denervation. He co-authored over 250 peer reviewed publications and is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC).

Dr Nieves Gonzalo

Dr Nieves Gonzalo is Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Interventional Cardiology Department at Clinico San Carlos University Hospital in Madrid.
She obtained her Specialist Certification in Cardiology after training at Clinico San Carlos University Hospital in Madrid. Subsequently, she underwent a research fellowship at Thoraxcenter, Erasmus University Rotterdam (The Netherlands) under the supervision of Professor Patrick Serruys, focused mainly in intracoronary imaging and bioabsorbable stents.
In 2010 she obtained her PhD with the thesis “Optical coherence tomography for the assessment of coronary atherosclerosis and vessel response after stent implantation”.
Her track record includes over 170 articles indexed in PubMed, as well as book chapters in Interventional Cardiology textbooks. Recent research projects as principal investigator includes a study about the assessment of neoatherosclerosis and its clinical impact in patients with restenosis and research regarding vessel injury and healing evaluation with different stent platforms evaluated with OCT. Dr Gonzalo is a dedicated educationalist with involvement in many areas of complex PCI, serving currently as Deputy Editor for Eurointervention and Committee Member of EuroPCR.

Dr Pinilla is originally from Colombia and received her MD from Universidad de Caldas in Manizales, Colombia. She moved to Spain to complete training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and then moved to Canada to complete an Interventional Cardiology, non-invasive Cardiac Computed Tomography Angiography and advanced Intracoronary Imaging fellowship at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada. She also obtained a Master’s Degree in Health Research Methodology from Universidad de Cordoba and is currently in the PhD Program in Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain.
